Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is an effective short term one-on-one intervention for first grade students who have been identified as needing reading support. This program is supplemental to good classroom teaching. Each student receives a half hour lesson each day for 12-20 weeks with either Mrs. Rielly or Mrs. Sarasin. The intent of the program is to accelerate their learning so that they can catch up to their peers and continue to learn independently.
Lesson Components
Each 30 minute lesson will always include the following components:
- Rereading familiar books (two or three books)
- Running Record of the previous day's new book
- Letter/word work with magnetic letters (This includes fast letter recognition and learning how to break words apart)
- Composing and writing a short story
- Assembling a cut-up story
- Reading a new book
